In light of the riots I have thought of a small satirical piece.

The PM is my Destroyer; I shall not live
He taketh me to lie down in barren pastures:
He leadeth me to the tempest.
He killeth my soul and ambition:
He leadeth me in the paths of austerity for His name’ sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of Clegg,
I will fear no evil: For not even Cameron himself;
Thy Jack Daniels and thy Kebab, they comfort me.
Thou preparest a battle before me in the presence of Parliament;
Thou annointest my head with Vomit; My cup runneth empty.

And now a personal message from the Prime Minister;

“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the House’s of the Parliament forever.”

This is a piece of fiction.

I do not support of recommend any violence against anyone during these riots and this piece of satirical work is NOT to be used as propaganda in any riot of any sort!

With 2010 now under our belts and a new government things have changed for the worse (but that’s a post for another day). Unfortunately for us in Swindon, the council is still as useless as ever, failed promises, failed partnerships, failed dreams and crushed aspirations for so many of the electorate.

With the cuts coming into force ths year and thousands of families re-evaluating their stance on the economic board, I cannot feel anything but sadness and hopelessness for those who have been betrayed by all the major political parties not just by the local political figures but nationally. The many thousands of families let down by Roderick Bluh of Swindon Borough Council, with inconsistent leadership and general lack of common sense, we are now on a steep slide into local economic dementia. We of course do not need to let this happen, I have heard that local businesses and residents of Abbey Meads have been cautious of a local councillors mannerisms and general attitude, I am of course talking about the Chair of the Licensing Committee…one particular individual was verbally thronged/whipped at a local election last year.

If Swindon is to have any chance of getting through this onset economic difficulty which has been forced onto the people of swindon by the local administration, small businesses and traders are the key to success yet the council is completely blind to this fact. I’m not an economic expert and I can see it. Also with the austerity measure’s the private sectors cannot soak up as many jobs as the local administration or government thinks.

The local opposition need to get their leadership into gear aswell, local elections this year and all outs next year. They cannot be relaxed nor complacent like they have been and letting the local administration turn into a Dicktator and his generals, that is labours fault. Simple, bad leadership, failure to hold the administraton to account. The Lib Dems have failed aswell for not doing the same as labour and holding them to account, is it fear? Respect? Who knows but the joke is on the taxpayer and hard working people of swindon.

That brings me onto my next point, political assistants, not a mandatory role yet we are shelling out £80’000 a year for them. Surely in a time of austerity it would make more sense to bin the non-mandatory roles within the council and keep the mandatory services going but again this is a failing of the council leader, rather then saving the workers of swindon he would sacrifice them to keep his non mandatory political assistant going (who was for some reason suspended from the london conservatives).

I have no problem with political assistants, the problem I have is while everyone is making sacrifices, voluntarily or forcefully. The leader of the Council has protected himself and his own interests rather then show some willing and sack non mandatory staff to at least keep a few essential staff in work. And when I mean essential staff, the hard working electorate of swindon. I can easily see that amongst many of the people wwho have been sacked by the council because of Cameron and Clegg’s austerity measures, for some it will end families, which begs the question “are we really in this together?” But judging by the local administrations behaviour, its a case of Us (the real workforce) and Them (Self interested poltical vampire).

But back to Political Assistants, what exactly do they do? I can’t really see the leader of the councils Assistant doing a lot apart from browsing the web all day and sending pointless emails. Or perhaps they have been delegated out to represent the council at a function……are they allowed to do that? I don’t know. Besides I think it shows clearly that the leader and deputy leader of the council would rather send a non elected official to a function that they should have been at….lazyness? embarrassment? Or paranoia? Or the simple fact that it just doesn’t interest him or hs interests.

Yes folks i am back and on familiar territory aswell, Tadpole Farm to be precise. i recently submitted a Freedom Of Information request to Swindon Borough Council in regards to official meetings held between the developer and the council itself…….this is what i found out.

  1. The first meeting was held on 25th January 2010 at the Swindon Borough Council Civic Offices.
  2. The second meeting was held on 3rd December 2010.
  3. Both meetings were information sharing exercises between developers and the Council where developers presented information to the
    Council.
  4. No minutes were taken for either meeting.

This of course isnt the full set of data…..ill get to the rest later on.

Lets have a look at the first 4 points.  On the 1st of March 2010 The Link Magazine reported that several council members were spurred into action after recieving complaints from concerned residents……one interesting point, it seems that Council Leader Roderick Bluh, Cabinet Member for Strategic Planning and Transportation Peter Greenhalgh , North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson and Vera Tomlinson were seriously relaxed over the whole issue. Now while it may look like the Council were spurred into action, in-fact they could have been sipping tea and talking absolute crap (which wouldn’t be a surprise).

To add further insult to injury, no minutes were held for the entire meeting? which begs the question, was it official or not? in my view if no notes were taken how can you justify the use of public funds to hold a more then likely useless meeting in which you cannot possibly know that the issues you have put across to the council are being addressed, the quill pen of the local administration writes another secret line. But seeing as the council has only had 2 ‘official’ meetings which were both Information Sharing Exercises, their input into the whole situation is somewhat minimalist .

The January 2010 meeting was attended by:

  • Cllr Rod Bluh as Leader of the Council
  • Cllr Peter Greenhalgh as Cabinet Member for Strategic Planning and Transport
  • Justin Tomlinson as Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for North Swindon
  • Cllr Vera Tomlinson as Ward Member for Abbey Meads

Now while im looking at the attendance list for the first meeting in January, i do find it a little suspect that only 2 North Swindon councillors were present at the meeting…..i wonder if any other north swindon councillors knew of the meeting and or were invited?. Unsurprisingly this is not the first time councillors have not been invited to meetings that affect their wards (E.G Section 106 monies being moved out of the ward kitty into other wards). While they may have followed the correct procedure it is at best ethically sketchy for the council to do so, as those monies would be best served in the ward they were allocated to.

The December 2010 meeting was attended by:

  • Cllr Rod Bluh as Leader of the Council
  • Cllr Peter Greenhalgh as Cabinet Member for Sustainability, Strategic Planning, Property and Transport
  • Cllr Vera Tomlinson as Ward Member for Abbey Meads

In this meeting the attendance is slightly different , Justin Tomlinson is not present which leaves Vera Tomlinson as the ONLY North Swindon councillor, still very very interesting as no other councillors were invited to the Information Sharing Exercise and again no minutes were held for theis ‘official’ meeting which again means that information cannot be passed around local councillors and the electorate. It is very interesting to see that Rod Bluh, Peter Greenhalgh , Vera Tomlinson and Justin Tomlinson are using this as nothing more then a possible vote gaining exercise to gain a double win with the reciept of Section 106 Monies. BUT i think the electorate are rather more intelligent then the council gives them.

So in summary there were ‘official’ meetings where information was exchanged between the council and the developers but no notes were taken so it was a pointless exercise to even begin with, i wonder if any of the people present can remember what was discussed at the meeting in January?….probably not.
